Accelerator is hax.
The downside of playing from a canon that originated as a light novel series is the lack of translated canon for the later stuff. The anime only covers light novels v1-6. The manga covers approximately the same, though it's currently on the Accelerator and Last Order arc, which was volume 5 in the light novels. There are 19 light novels out now.
Accelerator has canon in volumes 8, 12, 13, and 15. Possibly later ones, but I'm not entirely sure.
Anyhoo! I was discussing with a friend about whether Last Order remembers the events of episodes 19-20. When Accelerator did a diff on her data and reverted her to her state a week earlier, she obviously lost her memories of him from the last two days. But~
After a little searching online to find out for certain, I found this on some review page:
Since the series is going to end with the current arc, we won’t see Accelerator again unless they produce a second season.
Here are some spoilers I gathered:
1. Accelerator’s brain is damaged and he can only use his Vector Changing ability for 15 minutes with the help of the Misaka network.
2. Last Order did lose the memories of Accelerator but she retrieves them from the other Sisters who were linked with her.
I guess that the author wanted to keep Accelerator in the story but he needed to nerf down his powers, otherwise he would be almost invincible.
I was already aware of #1, and #2 makes perfect sense. This brings to mind the circumstances of #1, though. A little more chance searching revealed these amusing threads on boards. I'm especially amused by the Accelerator vs DBZ Goku fight discussion.
So apparently if I were to canon update Accelerator he'd get a pimp cane and angel wings. What.
Under this state, he update and overwrite his own ability to do something supposedly impossible. Through the input of AIM, he can control vectors that supposedly don't exist as well and doesn't need to get in contact with his body (vector mist is enough). And the wings itself are constructed by powers very similiar to Telsma, and Index has commented that the wing's power is comprable that of a saint. Also, Accelerator's voice starts to produce weird noises in this state, much like Gabriel.
Kakine's seraphic wings are also very similiar. Kakine actually discovered the true nature of his and Accelerator's power upon seeing the black wings, but he got beaten into meat sauce before he can elaborate on that.
But basically, both Accelerator and Kakine's power has angelic nature and capable of updating natural law. And knowing Alister's plan requires artificial angel as well creating a brand new alien world, you can tell why those two are different from the rest.
If anything, I would say Accelerator is already half an artifical angel. He can already press against the alien world of magic with his alien world of AIM just like Huze=Kazakiri.
Holy fuck.
